Old Russian time, 10th – 13th cc.
It is located in Tarasivka village, Plekhivka Village Council, Orzhytsia district, Poltava region, in the eastern part of the village, on the slope edge of the root terrace of the right bank of the Sula River, the left feeder of the Dnipro River, in Krucha, Burty and Lysa Hora natural landmarks.
Tarasivka fortified settlement is identified with the chronicle Old Russian city Horoshyn (Hroshyn). The chronicle Horoshyn town is mentioned in Monomakh’s “Homily” between the events of 1084: “In the same summer we chased the Polovtsians for Khorol, have already taken Horoshyn”.
This fortified settlement is known from Cossack act sources, described in the late 19th – 20th cc. by V.H. Liaskornskyi, L.V. Padalka.
It was examined by F.B. Kopylov (1945), I.I. Liapushkin (1948), M.P. Kuchera (1979 and 197), Yu.Yu. Morhunov (1980), V.V. Sherstiuk (2014).
The Tarasivka archaeological complex, consisting of the remains of citadel, fortified post and three townships, has a total area of about 13.69 hectares. The citadel is located on the slope edge of the right bank of the Sula River, has an oval shape and area of about 1.03 hectares. The citadel’s fortifications have been preserved along the entire perimeter, except for the eastern side. The breastwork has a complex structure, especially on the south-western and western sides, where two- and even three-row structures can be traced. There was only one entrance to the castle, and it was on the north side. Of interest is an uphill on the territory of the fortified pot for the entrance to the “Castle Gate”. The fortified post is adjoined to the citadel from the south and west It also has a rounded shape. Traces of fortifications in the form of a bloated breastwork and moat have been preserved here. Its area is about 4.22 hectares.
The south-eastern part of the post is occupied by an old, abandoned cemetery.
The expressive archaeological materials of the 11th and the 1st half of the 13th cc. were collected on the surface of the ploughed part of the site.
The fortified settlement is adjoined to the township II on the north side. In addition, it has an area of 1.67 hectares. The township I is located on the south of the fortified settlement. Its area is about 6.77 hectares.
A rather representative selection of findings dating from the 11th to the 1st half of the 13th c. was collected from the territory of the fortified post: ceramics, tools, household items, blank parts and traces of handicrafts (slag, slate), etc.
